It has been quite a while since i last watched a good Malay movie...how should i put this...the last time i watched a Malay movie in the cinema...it was Ombak Rindu...yeah...i kinda got into all the hype about it...i told myself that Maya Karin was the main reason i watched the movie...hahaha...prior to that...it was Khurafat...damn if i was not shedding myself off the view most of the time throughout the movie...until now i still questioned myself why did i went for the movie in the first place since i knew that my head will be most of the time under my shirt...yeah...i am such a penakut as opposed to my big size...wadefish...before that it was Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah...that was a good comedic watch after a hectic day in the office...now comes to the question of why did i watch this movie...KIL...
First of all...i was smitten by the poster...i love the shades of colour that was used for the poster...my favorite colour is blue...so that figures...it kinda intrigued me to watch it...as most of the time...movie posters will be the first impression of the movie...normally its for those movies that i am not really keen on watching in the first place which in this case...the Malay movies...which i recalled why i watched Sepet back then...because i loved the poster...i end up watching the movie in the cinema...
How does the story go? It was about a depressed-suicidal guy who crafted ways of killing himself...but he did not get around to actual materialised it...for one thing...he was not brave enough to do it...but he was really tempted to do so...he was also kinda being alienated in the office...not sure whether its by choice or others done that to him due to his character...then that one fateful day (while he was smoking - disclaimer - smoking is bad to your health - okay i am telling myself to stop) he came across a phone number on the wall of this mysterious organisation who help those who wanted to commit suicide...how? by helping them to take their life but with no specific details of where, when, how or who will do the 'job'...this guy wanted his life to end badly enough that he agreed to have himself killed by this mysterious organisation...
Of course (as any normal movies do) the will to have his life being cut short slowly deteriorates when he made acquaintance with this cheeky and bubbly girl (who kinda look like that actress from the telenovela La Usurpadora) who lives in the same block as he is...then everything started to gradually changed for the better...his officemate suddenly made an effort to communicate with him...his boss gave him a bonus...gradually he was getting out of depression...at the same time he also wondered why this girl loves to hang out with him since no one wanted to before...for the rest of the story...you have to watch it yourself...
It has been a while since i recommended my friends to watch a Malay movie (the last time it was the three movies i mentioned above - except Ombak Rindu unless you are a fan of either lead actor or actress)...j'aime le film...i love the whole premise of the movie...the progression...the art direction...the angle of the camera...the tone of the colour used...the choices of music...the acting...i really have to commend on the acting by the lead actors...it went on so naturally as if both were in a normal everyday conversation with each other instead of being scripted...the tone of the voice used...yeah...overall...i have to say that it was a pleasantly good watch...the theme also brings a different flavour as opposed to most Malay movies that we had been bombarded with nowadays...with downright ridiculous title for start and bad acting to match...
I also think that the main character is real...being depressed with some rather unnatural thoughts going through your mind...bringing yourself back to life...putting everything back on track...recoiled from whatever depression state you were in...it was almost towards the end of the movie that we finally understand what made him so suicidal...which i believe does happen in the real life...
Overall...it was a good watch...i believe it is indeed a must-watch Malay movie for this year...
