Senseless Ramblings of Commoner About Finance

Lots of my friends do wonder, how the heck i managed to travel coz we know basically how much all of us got paid...hurmmm....well, i already wrote how i managed my travels in one of my previous entry last year...so this time around, i think i might just give some idea of how i done my budgetting...it might work for me, but it might not work for anyone else...yeah, everyone is different isn't it...and one more thing...based on the my current financial status, i can't afford to buy a house just yet...i might try to squeezed it in for next year...

i had been posted to the finance department for about 1 year and 7 months...been doing budgetting in the big scale for the organisation...and suddenly it hits me...why i didn't apply what i know to my own personal life...yeah, my finance needs some big revamp...with an extra-ambitious-travelling + extra-shopaholic-shopping + extra-luxurious-meals-getaway last year...the year of 2009 leaves me with full of sweet memory and also marks a bad financial year for me...yup...i really need to re-structure my finance, in one way or another or else, i won't be able to do any more travelling this year (missed my Perth trip in December due to financial constraint, fyi i already bought the tickets in June 2009)...

end of last year i developed this excel format to ease up the way i monitor the budget of the whole organisation internally in 2010...all i need was a lil bit of adjustment here and there and it can fit right in for me to use on my daily life...yeah it kinda sound a lil bit stupid but seriously i need to do this...on top of that i have to do the whole year financial projection (based on my current salary, waiving all those increaments and anything that comes in my way)...find out how much i will got paid in one whole stretch of a year and i got started...and yeah, since i am in the finance department, i am stuck in the office...NO extra allowances, or claims or what not...what i got is totally basically a basic salary of an officer in the service...

lets get started...10% off my paycheck went to the savings account (after the E*PF deduction)...yeah it is a little amount...but seriously, we need to be real...10% is the best i can do...and maybe after i got my 'taraf berpencen', i can increase it a bit (plus the amount from the monthly E*PF deduction)....that left me with another 90%...this particular 90% have to be re-adjust to shred off the commitments....the commited payments that you have to do monthly without fail...car loans, study loans, house rental, utilities and whatever loans there is out there....your car should never exceed more than 20% off your paycheck...otherwise you will be pampering your car more than you going to spend it on yourself...so that left with about 70%...from this 70%, the rest of the commited payments should not exceed 30%...when i said commited payments i meant all your loans/ commited payments (study loans, personal loans, house rentals etc)...so roughly you will be left with only 40% to go on with your daily life...

as for me with my ambitious travelling plans, i set aside 5% from the paycheck for my travel funds...yeah it is so little that sometimes people just wonder how can i travel on such minimal amount....its easy...just get real and know what your limitations are....you cant very well go to europe by just saving up in a year, it had to be done in long stretch of years (i done mine in the span of 6 years)...and also i travel in budget style....not luxurious 5 star hotels or what not...travel on basic aspects...

now i am left with 35%...erkkk...this is the final amount that i spend monthly for my daily endeavours and also in case my little brothers and sisters started doing that kitty-like-voice saying ~i don't have anything to eat~i had been tying my stomach~owh yeah, it works...and i had done that to my big sister back then when i was in my varsity years...now its my younger siblings kinda take the same idea and applied it to me...denggg.....hahahaha...its not much but alhamdulillah i managed...somehow i managed to monitor my daily expenditure and where my money had been going...to tell the truth, i only spent 12% off my paycheck for my meals in January 2010...12% went to gas, parking and tolls...and another 5% for my own entertainment....movies, outings and all....and another 6% went to my younger siblings...

i am dead serious about financial issue this year...last year was a financial nightmare for me...spending more than i could afford...over-ambitious-extensive-travels....these two really put a big hole and i mean BIG HOLE in my account book...so this year i seriously want to be eased off financial problems...as i have one goal to achieve this year...but somehow by september 2010, insya allah, i will have some extra funds, in which i hope can help in a way to achieve my 2010 BIG GOAL...for those who know me well enough do know what is my BIG GOAL this year...yeah...i am dead serious...

we have this one officer in our division who did his budgeting using excel. each tab, dia akan categorise accordingly. and then, dia akan tengok budget dia in general view for the whole month, pastuh dia compare dengan consumer price index (CPI) and make a pattern out of it.

now, that's what i call economic haha. even terms yang dia gunakan pun, verylah economical. deficit and all. sungguh fiskal! ahahahahah.

seriously? whois this guy? i want to be friends with him lah...when you see the layout of my excel file, then you understand its almost the same thing...after the month is over, a quick review would be made in the comparison of the average meal price and the most economical way to spend your money on...the deficit and everything...tapi i takder ler sampai wat comparison with CPI...now that gives me an idea...i think i should...

this thing is actually to monitor not only of my expenditure, but also to mark and recognise the pattern of spending that i made in the month...when did i spend the most, what i spent it on...and the importance of the spending compare to the whole expenditure...erkkk...giler ler...its a senseless ramblings of commoner...skg dok cakap cam financial analyst plak...erkkk

good explanation. eventho aku tak travel sebanyak kau, aku pun dapat gak pertanyaan2 mcmana aku mampu nak travel.

come on la, travel hari ni bukan mcm 20 tahun dulu. sekarang everyone can fly (AirAsia la plak!)

book awal, dpt tiket murah.
book cuti awal2 utk kesenangan.

pergi la ke negara2 yg matawang lagi rendah. kan senang. sepanjang aku travel, aku x pernah spend lebih RM1k. gi Koh Phangan aritu 5 hari aku spend RM450 je.

aku ada tulis pasal cara aku travel dalam one of my entry last year...
itu ler...ada orang spend untuk keta, untuk gf dan sewaktu dengannya...aku just save 5% from the remaining amount after 11% E*PF deduction untuk aku travel...its not much...tapi kalau dah simpan setahun tu banyak gak ler...boleh la gi 2,3 tempat...

Aku buat budget aku sendiri jugak..
Eversince masuk Matrix sebab mase tu dah putus tali dengan parents, harap duit scholar je..

Mine is just a simple one. Pengagihan duit dan perbelanjaan every cent yang keluar, setiap bulan.. Baru nampak cash flow..
Tapi tiap bulan kena analyze, setakat tulis je tapi tak analyze pun tak berfungsi jugak, kan?
